This powerpoint presentation begins by providing background information on American Water, the largest
water services provider in
North America, and its world class drinking water laboratory employing 36 highly trained
professionals. Bulleted points pertaining to the Long Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water
Treatment Rule (LT2) include: began testing with intent to grandfather data in 2003;
our database contains nearly 2000 data points;
spread across 15 States from coast to coast; and,
includes data from 82 sites. American Water's approach to
Cryptosporidium monitoring includes:
take advantage of the grandfather provision and begin
monitoring surface water sources prior to the compliance
monitoring period;
collect 24 samples (1 per month) and use the highest 12
month mean;
monitor sources with highest risk first
- July 2003 to June 2005;
and, monitor sources with lower risk after
- July 2005 to June 2007. A statistical data summary is provided for bin classification for filtered systems, along with average seasonal variation, long term seasonal variation, and correlations with turbidity for Cryptosporidium and for Giardia. Includes tables, figures.
