The Park Meadows Well, located in Park City, Utah is one of the key water sources utilized by
Park City Municipal Corporation (PCMC). In 2001, the source was declared to be groundwater
under the direct influence of surface water (GWUI) by the Utah Division of Drinking Water.
Investigation into possible treatment options led to the pilot testing of disposable membrane
filtration. Data collected during pilot testing indicated that the Park Meadows well water was
already experiencing a high level of filtration naturally within the aquifer. An alternate treatment
strategy was proposed utilizing "natural filtration" and ultraviolet (UV) disinfection. This alternate approach
was approved by the Utah Division of Drinking Water and constructed in 2006, resulting in the
restoration of the water source for use by PCMC. The construction cost incurred for the project
resulted in a savings of $380,000 to the community. Includes reference, table.
