This powerpoint presentation outlines the following topics: Microfiltration (MF)/Ultrafiltration (UF) membrane clean-in-place (CIP) waste streams;
regulatory aspects of membrane CIP wastes and
residuals;
treatment of CIP waste streams; and,
pilot study results from return of treated phosphoric
acid and citric acid CIP waste streams. Presentation summary includes:
citric and phosphoric acid can both be treated with
calcium chloride;
the recycling of treated phosphoric acid CIP waste
had no adverse impact on membrane operation;
the recycling of treated citric acid CIP waste had
no adverse impact on membrane operation; TOC concentration did increase after recycling
treated citric acid CIP waste; and,
careful consideration should be given to potential
affects of recycle on primary treatment train
performance.
