This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of membrane processes and fouling. Presentation objectives include the following: summarize the current knowledge base on
membrane fouling in desalination and water
reuse systems, including
fouling mechanisms, commonly encountered foulants, and
emerging foulants; and,
identify future research needs for mitigating
membrane fouling. Presentation summary includes the following:
membrane fouling is a complex problem that is dependent on many variables;
a comprehensive feedwater characterization is critical for understanding how
fouling will affect your system;
fouling mitigation strategies must focus on all different areas involved in a
membrane process such as
system design,
membrane selection, and
system operation; and,
current and future research is needed to provide more tools for combating
membrane fouling.
