This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of natural organic matter (NOM), including composition, treatment processes, and analysis and characterization. The context of the study is the application to the city of Rennes, France. Characteristics of the resource and description of the water treatment plant of Villejean are presented, along with adsorption on activated carbon - hybrid process, removal of organic matter by activated carbon adsorption, and hybrid process with PAC and immersed ultrafiltration membranes. Presentation conclusions indicate the following: adsorption on activated carbon - determination of different NOM fractions; strongly adsorbable, weakly adsorbable and non- adsorbable fractions; specificity of biodegradable organic matter; complete adsorbability of biodegradable DOC; non-adsorbability of the refractory fraction; Hybrid process - PAC/microfiltration; impact of the PAC slurry parameters; role of the PAC in the biological development; need of a minimal age for the biological activity; general efficiency of the process; removal of 0.6 mgC/L of DOC, 0.4 mgC/L of BDOC (0.2 mgC/L by biological degradation); presence of biopolymers at the surface of PAC particles; confirmation of the biological activity; hydraulic aspect; good general performance of the membrane system; and, variations due to shutdowns of the pilot plant, or PAC build-up at the bottom of the membrane units. Includes tables, figures.
