This poster paper introduces a coupling reaction study mediated by laccase that is hypothesized to
result in the removal of a variety of types of emerging
contaminants from water.
Presence of natural organic matter (NOM) affects the removal of emerging
contaminants by either competing with the enzyme or facilitating
the coupling process through radicals reactions. Experimental methods included:
kinetics of E2 transformation by laccase;
influence of NOM and NOM model compounds as
co-substrates on E2 removal; and,
identification of the reaction products. Results are provided for reaction kinetics, influence of co-substrates, and reaction products and mechanisms.
