This is a powerpoint presentation of the 2009 AWWA State of the Industry Report. Objectives included: to develop high value insights regarding the key issues
facing the water industry; to identify issues of importance not being adequately
addressed to raise awareness and bring higher industry
priority;
to identify and track important industry trends on an on-going
basis for
emerging critical issues and
utility capital spending. Methodology included: over 12,000 AWWA members were invited to
participate;
2,200 water professionals completed the survey; experienced sample of industry professionals;
54% have over 20 years experience in the water
industry; respondents first rated overall industry soundness including
current soundness and
expected soundness 5 years in the future; and, respondents were asked to describe issues that
are facing the industry in the next 1-2 years,
facing the industry in the next 3-5 years; and, issues that are
inadequately addressed. Key findings are presented for: business factors; infrastructure; source water issues; workforce; security; regulations; U.S. perceptions; and, Canadian perceptions. The Utility and Service Provider Economic Survey is presented and key objectives were to: understand the opinions of U.S. utility and service
provider members regarding the effects of the recent
economic turmoil and political changes on their
current operations and plans for the future, both
locally and nationally; and,
establish benchmarks for monitoring trends linked to
changes in the economic and political environment. Methodology included:
4,439 AWWA utility members from the U.S. were invited
to participate in this online survey in December, 2008, with
400 completing the entire survey; and,
805 AWWA service provider members from across the
U.S. were invited to participate in this survey in March, with
95 completing the survey and 95 completing most or all of
the survey.
