Gravity settling is a common method for solid/liquid
separation in water treatment.
Successful solid/liquid separation in flocculation
processes will decrease the probability of the membrane
fouling or filter clogging.
This research is mainly focusing on understanding
the characteristics of the flocs and their settling
behavior. Study hypothesis: flocs formed in water treatment are fractal and their properties can be
described best by fractal geometry. Topics presented include: size distribution analysis; measuring the mass fractal
dimension (indirectly determined); and, measuring the box-counting fractal
dimension (directly determined). Includes tables, figures.
