This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of micropollutants found in France's raw surface waters, non-point pollution
by pesticides being the main issue, along with endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs), pharmaceuticals and pesticides. Concentrations found in the Seine and Marne Rivers are provided, along with a list of EDCs and pharmaceuticals that have been monitored since 2004. A second issue of micropollutants found in the treatment process is presented. Experiments with pilots in the ozonation and granular activated carbon (GAC) treatment
processes are presented, and conclusions indicate that: in standard conditions most
pesticides and pharmaceuticals
are removed by ozonation and
GAC filtration stages; however, some compounds can
be problematic -
low reaction to ozone and
partially removed by GAC filtration; and, byproducts of Atrazine -
determine the GAC filter operating
life.
