This poster paper presents a study by the City of Houston (COH) to change its chloramines
dosing procedure at the East Water Purification Plant (EWPP)
to target a 5:1 chlorine-to-ammonia-nitrogen (Cl2:NH3-N) mass
ratio in treated water entering the distribution system. COH recognized that switching to a 5:1 chlorine-to-ammonia
ratio is a critical first step in minimizing the potential for
nitrification to occur in the distribution system. The poster paper discusses the significance of the 5:1 chlorine-to-ammonia-nitrogen mass ratio, along with chemical cost savings. Includes 5 references, figures.
