This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of water issues in the western U.S. and a chronology of western water by decades. Future drivers of water issues will be: population growth;
climate change; and,
globalization. Signature issues by region are presented and include: Plains - Ogallala Aquifer;
Intermountain West - Dams in Colorado;
Northwest - salmon recovery;
California - Bay Delta, Imperial Valley;
Desert Southwest - Arizona, Las Vegas; and,
Regionwide - Colorado River Compact. Colorado examples of politics of western water are listed, along with utility practices for increasing and
securing supply.
