This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of soluble and particulate corrosion. A study is presented of balancing disinfectant residual with
the Lead and Copper Rule at Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Well sources were treated by greensand filtration, chlorine was added as a residual disinfectant in distribution
system and no phosphate inhibitor was used, just pH adjustment. Water was purchased from New Bedford, MA, in summer periods. New Bedford used chloramines as residual
disinfectant. Regulatory issues faced by Dartmouth are presented, along with scale on the interior of the pipe and the influence of residual disinfectant on the scale. Methodology included small scale test simulation of pipe loop, coupon test, and performing scale analysis on existing pipe.
