The purpose of this study was to evaluate a water plant's ability to provide disinfectant time in a typical square or circular clearwell basin. Two full scale facilities were evaluated and distorted physical models of the basins construction (1/24 and 1/42 scale) to determine their ability to simulate full scale conditions. Once constructed and a reasonable correlation obtained, various simple baffle arrangements were evaluated to determine their ability to improve detention time (T 10) characteristics.
