The threatened Edwards Aquifer (Texas) has been the subject of much dispute and regulation. This overview clearly demonstrates that the water balance in the region served by the aquifer. After describing the water table level, the karst formation, and other characteristics of the aquifer, the author summarizes in chronological fashion the regional water resources management studies and activities carried out by San Antonio. This provides an overview of the subject. Impacts of legislation and litigation are also reviewed.
