In 1975, the Fairfax County Water Authority became involved in a highly controversial water treatment plant site selection process. The 1975 Water Facilities Planning Agreement between the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors precipitated from that issue and resulted indirectly in the extensive public involvement process currently in place at the Authority.
