Golf courses throughout the southland, toilets in Orange County office buildings, landscaping in Costa Mesa and a cemetery in Glendale -- all are using recycled water and saving fresh water with financial support from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (Metropolitan) through its Local Projects Program (LPP). Water reclamation is an important part of Southern California's water supplies. Locally, water reclamation projects are integrated into a complex regional water supply system which maximizes the yield of local sources and the beneficial use of imported supplies. This paper discusses the outlook for water reclamation in California, its importance to Southern California, and Metropolitan's commitment to supporting reclamation.
