Continuing research in all aspects related to small water systems offers the promise of supplying a higher quality of water at a reasonable cost. Research can also be expected to increase the rate of compliance. The purpose of the AWWA Small Systems Research Committee is to identify research needs relevant to small water systems. In order to identify these research needs, the committee elected to conduct a survey of consulting firms and state regulatory agencies on their perceptions. A summary of this survey is presented.
