The structured workshop approach is a powerful tool for improving understanding and building consensus during needs assessment for information system master planning. Because of its versatility, it is equally effective later in the master planning process for alternative identification, selection, and implementation planning. Because the structured workshop approach overcomes the limitations of traditional planning methods, it minimizes technological compromises during implementation and arrives at solutions that meet user needs and comply with fiscal constraints.
