This paper discusses the reasons why the City of Winnipeg Water and Waste Department piloted the QualServ Self-Assessment and Peer Review for the American Water Works Association. The protocol and efforts associated with undertaking the Self-Assessment and Peer Review are discussed and key success factors are identified. The paper also reviews how the outcomes of the Self-Assessment and Peer Review were used by the utility to develop improvement initiatives. The improvement initiatives, anticipated benefits and future work are identified.
