The Manchester Ring Main (MRM) forms part of North West Water Ltd's (NWW) strategic water supply network, delivering over 410 Mld (90 million gallons) to Manchester and the surrounding area. In 1997, NWW embarked on a programme of work with Bechtel Water (BW) to build strategic trunk mains models for the area. A valuable insight into the behavior of the ring main has been gained in terms of the performance of current assets. The MRM has made use of telemetry data and has thus provided a powerful tool for investigating operation of the ring main. The MRM model has also provided a useful workbench for the design of capital projects.
