This standard covers potassium permanganate (KMnO4), CAS No. 7722-64-7, for water supply service application. The main purpose of this standard is to provide purchasers, manufacturers, and suppliers with the minimum requirements for potassium permanganate, including physical, chemical, packaging, shipping, and testing requirements. Major changes made in this revision of AWWA B603 include the following: The format has been changed to current AWWA standard style; The acceptance clause (Sec. I.C) and the definitions of parties (Sec. 3) have been revised to approved wording; The flowability test is renamed; The new water tolerance section (Sec. 4.1.3) renames the former pour-test index the water-tolerance index; and Editorial revisions are included throughout the standard.
The addendum to ANSI/AWWA B603-93 Standard for Potassium Permanganate revises or replaces Page v, Sec. I.C; Page vii, Sec. III.A; and Page 3, Sec. 4.3.
