This paper describes the implementation of the Southwest Florida Water Management
District's regional water shortage plan. Topics discussed include: causes of water
shortages; duration of water shortages; involvement of stakeholders and other
impacted industries; including education with restriction enforcement procedures;
documenting related policies along with internal interpretations of restrictions;
update water shortage plans and related procedures and products regularly; and, water
shortage planning being a component of integrated resource planning. Includes 4 references.
