How can you develop quality computer systems that truly satisfy user needs, meet tight project schedules, and control system development costs? Interactive design blends multiple perspectives and develops consensus on solutions. Defining user needs is the first and most critical step in developing a quality computer system. Interactive design uses structured workshops to elicit information from users and develop system specifications in a compressed time frame. Interactive design works in concert with analytical methodologies and computer aided software engineering (CASE) tools. Interactive design is a generic term also known as joint application design, joint requirements definition, rapid system development, and structured rapid prototyping. Some typical applications are: defining functional requirements, analyzing alternatives, modeling data, designing screens and reports, and planning implementation. This paper briefly lists a number of advantages and features of interactive design.
