In 1989, the City of Mansfield, Ohio made the decision to install a computer/programmable logic controller (PLC) based Distributed Control System (DCS) to monitor and control the 23 MGD treatment plant. The computer-aid Microsoft's "WINDOWS" has saved time and expenses, along with providing exceptional control and monitoring capabilities for improved water quality. Regular and preventive maintenance also receive more attention because of the labor hours saved and the availability of the equipment run time logs. Specifics concerning hardware and software are given.
