The State of Maryland recently began requesting annual water audits from its largest Public Water Supplies (PWSs). Audits were requested to track water loss from distribution systems and to promote water conservation. Systems with significant losses were further requested to submit loss reduction plans. The results have been disappointing regarding the number of systems that submitted audits, the methods used in the audits, and the losses reported in the audits. Includes appendices.
