This paper reports the results of a corrosion inhibitor screening evaluation
conducted to assess alternative inhibitor formulations performed as part of Pinellas County
Utility's (PCU's) Water Blending Facility (WBF) Project. The investigation evaluated several
different inhibitors for metal release control in the Pinellas County Water System (PCWS) under
real-time variable water supply conditions. Field-testing was performed using electrochemical
noise (EN) equipment at the S.K. Keller Connector in northeastern Pinellas County from
September 8, 2002 to February 3, 2003 and from November 21, 2003 to February 25, 2004 using
water supplied at the PCU's point of connection with the regional supplier, Tampa Bay Water
(TBW). Differences in corrosion protection was noted among the inhibitors. Inhibitor reversion
rates occurred in neat solution and generally increased with increased temperature. This
document presents an overview of a study investigating inhibitor treatment of a variable blend of
chloraminated ground, surface, and desalinated water. Includes 12 references, tables, figures.
