The availability of sophisticated computerized maintenance management software (CMMS) now places the capability of capturing accurate operational data in the hands of the Plant and Maintenance Managers. It is now possible to clearly identify the cost associated with the maintenance operation, systematically plan changes and evaluate the effect of those changes. The practical application of the results gleaned from today's management software is providing the user with the significant cost savings proclaimed to be achievable during the cost justification period of obtaining the software. Available data and its applications are examined and presented.
