A hydraulic model of a water distribution system is a very powerful tool. It is the foundation for making informed decisions and building a functional and cost effective water system. However, the usefulness of this tool is a direct function of how the model is developed and maintained. The calibration of the model is an important consideration in model design and is used to ensure that output data simulates actual system performance. This paper presents some innovative techniques for model calibration that maintain simulation quality, even when confronted with limitations due to modeling software data quality and budget.
