Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (ISKI) is in charge of water supply and wastewater disposal for Istanbul Metropolitan Area housing about 12 million people. Currently, ISKI is operating five water treatment plants, nine wastewater treatment plants, 450 service reservoirs and water & wastewater pumping stations. Total length of water and sewerage network is about 21,500 km. In order to increase the effectiveness of the services, ISKI has developed an infrastructure information system using the geographic information system (GIS) as a tool. This paper presents a short description of the ISKI's GIS application as a management and operation tool for water and wastewater systems in Istanbul. Includes figures.
