This paper presents the technologies available, the benefits than can be achieved, and the challenges that can surface when Inter/Intranet design and construction tools are utilized on a project. The benefits include improved communications, enhanced productivity, minimized rework, and better utilization of appropriate personnel (even if they are remote from the core design or construction team). The challenges include overcoming cultural resistance to using electronic tools, working through widely varying IT skills among team members, and logistical concerns such as Internet Security, connection speeds, and IT infrastructures.
