Closed-loop pumping has been used as a component of the Denver water distribution system in Denver, Colorado for more than 30 years. Although most can be gravity fed, variations in the elevation of new developments necessitate some pumping to meet the Denver Water Department standards of minimum and maximum water pressure. The author traces the history of the use of closed-loop pumping in the Denver system, including the modifications that have been made to meet changing conditions.
