This article analyzes data from surveys of publicly and investorowned water utilities conducted in 1976, 1978, and 1980 by the American Water Works Association. This analysis is intended as a management tool for water utilities. Statistics are provided for the following categories: survey respondents by population; survey respondents by volume of water produced; water production by population groups; percapita production by volume groups; service connections by volume groups; water production by volume for rural water districts; water rates charged; trends in residential billing; other charges on water bill; per-capita water sales revenue; water sales revenue per residential service connection; and water utility industry trends.
