Fredericton, N.B., maintains 23 active wells that serve as the city's raw water source. Many of these wells have manganese concentrations far in excess of the 0.05 mg/L level recommended by the Canadian drinking water guidelines. An investigation showed that the wells could provide the city's drinking water if treatment for the removal of manganese was installed.
