Techniques for optimizing the operation of pumping facilities so as to minimize power costs were tested at the Pinellas County Water System, a large public water utility on Florida's west coast. The work included development of a large computer program that simulates pumping station operation and selects the pump combination and variable-speed drive setting requiring the minimum power cost for each flow throughout the range of station flows at the specified station total dynamic head. High-service pumping, booster pumping, and injection pumping facilities are covered. Includes 1 reference, tables, figures.
