This article discusses the presence of Legionella in water systems. Specifically, the article covers: conditions promoting the growth of Legionella in water systems; costs, advantages, and disadvantages of different disinfection methods for Legionella, including copper-silver ionization, thermal eradication (superheat-and-flush procedures), ultraviolet (UV) light, instantaneous heating system, hyperchlorination, ozone, and redundancy; unvalidated eradication methods; and, monitoring after disinfection.
