To stay competitive in today's business environment, the water profession must adapt to dynamic forces that are transforming societies worldwide. In the area of commerce, local and national borders are vanishing, replaced by a global economy. Populations are booming in undeveloped countries and shrinking elsewhere. The Internet provides instant information to a worldwide audience, all potential consumers of the new e-commerce. The challenge to the water industry is to adjust to meet these developments by incorporating appropriate technology as it develops, forging better employee-management relationships, and improving customer service and communication.
