This article discusses comments made by leading water utility members related to the Long Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Rule (LT2ESWTR). The comments came from utility organizations such as AWWA, the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA), the National Association of Water Companies (NAWC), and the National Rural Water Association. The organizations are concerned that some monitoring requirements are unnecessarily inflexible and punitive and that the proposal inappropriately pushes ultraviolet (UV) disinfection to the exclusion of other treatment alternatives to achieve additional Cryptosporidium treatment credit. The article does not describe the details of the proposed LT2ESWTR.
