The accommodation of underground utilities in the right- of-ways of modern urban streets would be a routine procedure if the space available for these utilities were adequate. Those involved in the planning, design, construction, or maintenance of utilities are aware of the increasing problems encountered under city streets. To establish an orderly system of space allocation, Dallas, Texas has created a utility location and coordination council. All utility lines and space can be identified with an easy to use method, and damage to utility lines can be sharply curtailed. Includes figures.
