Features to be considered for the efficient operation of any water system during the next decade are meeting future consumption demands, inflation, rising costs of chemicals, energy, labor, and materials. A system should be engineered and constructed to meet future peak demands without interruptions to customers, and to ensure maximum availability of water. The Atlanta, Georgia water system has established a computer control system to provide an accurate, reliable reporting process. Pumping stations, computer versatility, pressure, flow rates, and energy conservation are discussed.
