Although the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's
(USEPA's) regulatory schedule is relatively predictable,
it is much more difficult to predict future
activities by the administration or Congress that
could potentially affect water utilities. The authors
summarize the future actions that may be taken by
the administration, Congress, the Department of
Homeland Security (DHS), and USEPA. Trends in
Congress, topical issues of national concern (e.g.,
security, infrastructure, and global warming), and
actual regulatory deadlines are likely to influence
future activities. Both DHS and USEPA regulations
have the potential to have a significant impact on
utility operations. Includes 17 references.
