This slide presentation outlines a study on the detection of compromise in the barrier layer of
membranes or in the membrane housing. Membrane integrity test
methods included:
Direct Tests
conducted on the module;
Pressure-Decay Tests, Diffusive Air Flow etc.;
Indirect Tests
conducted on filtrate; and,
Particle Counters, Particle Monitors, Turbidimetry Challenge Tests- SIM. Proposed Technology
Concept/Characteristics included:
Separable - should allow pre-concentration, improves signal/noise ratio;
Identifiable/Markable, should confer specificity;
Detectable at low concentrations, sensitivity. Detection methods included:
Magnetic Relaxometry;
T2 relaxation times;
600 MHz NMR spectrometer (Varian); and,
Carl-Purcell-Meiboom-Gill sequence. Includes table, figures.
