This powerpoint presentation begins by presenting project objectives that include the following:
to determine the impacts of the ultrafiltration (UF)
design on the hydrodynamics; and,
to determine the consequences on
the fouling and the clogging. The methods included: develop and optimize CFD tool to
characterize the hydrodynamics of an ultrafiltration
module by monitoring the distribution of inlet water in the connection
box;
assess results of the CFD modeling
throughout experimental trials by conducting a
pilot study for local pressure
measurements; and,
evaluate the impact of the
hydrodynamic on the fouling propensity of
the membrane module by monitoring the
distribution of flow along the fiber. Both the CFD results and the environmental results are presented. Presentation conclusions indicate the following: CFD results -
hydraulic path heterogeneities
within the connection box, pressure head-losses inside the
fibers provide a pressure equilibrium;
experimental results -
good correlation between
CFD/experimental measurements; and,
impact on membrane performances -
fouling in the upper part,
clogging in the lower part but only
2% of fibers concerned. Includes figures.
