The Lorne Park Water Treatment Plant (WTP) is a conventional WTP located in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, and has a total rated capacity of 347 ML/d. This plant, which is owned by the Regional Municipality of Peel (Region), treats raw water from Lake Ontario. The WTP consists of the following two conventional plants sharing the same intake, low lift and high lift elements, reservoirs, chemical systems and wastewater treatment systems: the "old conventional plant" provides 227 ML/d capacity, while the "new conventional plant" provides 120 ML/d capacity. In order to achieve a total WTP capacity of 500 ML/d, the preferred option was to retrofit the 227 ML/d old conventional plant to a 380 ML/d membrane/ultraviolet (UV) oxidation plant and install UV disinfection units to the filter effluent pipes of the existing 120 ML/D conventional plant. This article presents the final tender design solutions for retrofitting the 347 ML/d Lorne Park conventional WTP to a 120 ML/d conventional plant and a 380 ML/d membrane and advanced UV oxidation plant. Includes tables, figure.
