Use of on-line particle counters in the potable water industry has increased in recent years. Unfortunately, there has been insufficient verification of the performance of these particle counters. Like any other monitoring tool, a particle counter's data are only as good as the calibration and performance verification which the equipment receives. This paper describes the various methods currently being used to calibrate particle counters. A simple field calibration verification which has been successfully performed in the field is also described.
