The Information Collection Rule method for recovering Cryptosporidium from water samples has been shown to produce highly variable results, with recoveries ranging from 0-200% in performance evaluation studies. Each step in the sample collection, processing and analysis can contribute to this variability. In this study, several alternative sample collection devices were assessed for their ability to capture oocysts and permit their recovery in the elution process.
