The presence of lead in drinking water is due, to a large extent, to the contact between water and metallic or plastic materials present in water distribution networks. While the relationship between pH and plumbosolvency of tap water is well established by solubility models and has been verified by field data, insufficient data has been reported to establish a relationship between alkalinity and lead release in tap water. Research is being conducted to develop an electrochemical technique to classify and monitor the corrosivity of potable waters towards lead. In this study, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was used to identify tap waters with a high propensity to plumbosolvency.
