The objectives of this study were to determine the efficacy of continuous separation channel centrifugation for concentrating several pathogens of different sizes and to determine the effect of the concentration process on Cryptosporidium viability. A blood cell separator was modified to operate on the principle of continuous separation channel centrifugation, to concentrate Cryptosporidium and other pathogens from water. Nineteen independent experiments were conducted. Mean recovery efficiencies of Cryptosporidium oocysts ranged from 78/5 to 101% with coefficients of variation from 10% to 23%. Giardia cysts were recovered with mean efficiencies ranging from 95% to 104% and coefficients of variation of 5% to 11%.
