Water reuse is vital and growing in popularity in America's Midwest. New systems
and innovative approaches are being developed frequently. As with other parts of
the US, regulatory and public perceptions can be hindrances to the implementation
of these systems. In order to increase common knowledge of reuse systems, the
authors of this paper are part of the newly formed Central States (Illinois,
Minnesota, Wisconsin) Water Environment Association's Water Reuse Committee.
Often the same factors that lead to the implementation of a reuse system in the
southwest are present here too. However there are unique aspects to reuse in the
north central region of the United States. This paper reviews the types of
systems that are in operation and some of those that are being planned and
explores the factors that drive the implementation of these projects. Includes 5 references, table, figures.
