Water reuse was identified as one of the key solutions in the Reno/Sparks/Washoe County
Regional Wastewater Reclamation Facilities Master Plan in 1996. The main goal of this Master
Plan was to provide a cost-effective phased program of recommended facilities to
accommodate growth in this region of Nevada and to maintain treatment reliability while continuing to meet effluent
discharge requirements. In fall 1997, the agencies began conducting a Regional Wastewater
Reclamation Facilities Design to develop an approach, including reuse, for the region.
This paper will present the process used and alternatives considered for implementing a
regional reuse system. For example, one of the regional alternatives involves the construction
of an effluent inter-tie pipeline which would interconnect the two treatment plants together as
one system. Includes tables.
