A 111 L pilot-scale flow-through reactor equipped with 6 x 1 kW medium-pressureultraviolet (UV) lamps was used to investigate the impact of medium-pressure UV irradiation on the possible formation of low molecular weight organic byproducts including phenols, aldehydes, and organic acids. Reactor effluent samples were taken at doses varying from 0 to 935 mJ/cm2 and organic acids, aldehydes, and phenols were measured. The potentials for UV-mediated bromate reduction and the formation of nitrite from nitrate were also examined. Includes 19 references, tables, figures.
